  • Jennwood Chen, MD, is a fellowship-trained minimally invasive surgeon that has recently joined the Division of General Surgery. He specializes in bariatric (weight loss) and foregut surgery.

    Dr. Chen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He then completed his internship and residency at the University of ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê.

    After completing his general surgery residency, he completed a fellowship at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where he focused on minimally invasive bariatric and foregut procedures such as laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, anti-reflux surgery and paraesophageal hernia repairs.

    He very much believes in a holistic approach to treating patients with the goal of improving patient’s overall well-being and quality of life.

    Dr Chen is thorough & shows alot of interest in one¿s well being & that is a real pleasure & treat to experience. When a person lives in rural areas they don¿t always get that pleasure along with such excellent healthcare! Thank u

    Dr. Chen was very thorough in my appointment with him. He made sure I understood every aspect of my procedure and everything leading up to it as well. He thoroughly answered all my questions that were few because he had already explained almost everything I had on my mind. He is also available to answer questions via MyChart.

    Dr. Chen gave me good advice a year ago when I was considering an operation ..what I needed to do prior and has been helpful in all the preparation leading up to it. He is very direct in his communication. I like that type of communication.
