SALT LAKE CITY— For the sixth year running University of ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê Hospital is ranked the No. 1 hospital in ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê and in the Salt Lake City metro area by U.S. News & World Report. In addition to that ranking the orthopedic specialty at ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê is ranked number 50 in the country. It was previously unranked. The 2019-2020 rankings also recognize ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê's cancer, ophthalmology, and urology specialties as high performing.

In addition to recognizing the excellence of several of ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê's specialties, U.S. News and World Report also recognized the high level of care provided in several common adult procedures. Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, colon and lung cancer surgeries, heart bypass, heart failure, and hip and knee replacement were all named high performing. These recognitions were based on the care provided to patients age 65 and older.

The U.S. News Best Hospitals in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
For the 2019-20 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 152 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.
